March 7, 2000. The motor ran pretty well, but smoked a bit when first started up. That indicated a bad valve seal or a cracked head. I was advised to pull the heads and check it out.
March 7, 2000. I didn't drive the car home from where I bought it because the brakes did not seem safe. So, when I got it back home, I tried replacing the brake pads and bleeding the brakes. No luck, the calipers need replaced or rebuilt.
March 12, 2000. Following the advice of my Corvette Sensei, I removed the heads to find good AND bad news. The good news was the cross-hatching was still visible on the cylinder walls (60,000 miles) and the bad news was cracked heads around the valve seats.
