The high back seat that was introduced in the 1978 Corvette Pace Car was made standard equipment in 1979. Plastic was used in the construction of these seats to help shave off 12lbs. The L48 and L82 engines were increased by 5hp due to new muffler design. Some of the late-build 1979s got the 85MPH Speedometers associated with the 1980 Corvettes.
